Hawley Demands Indictment of Minnesota AG Ellison

Lorna Morales,
 February 14, 2026

Sen. Josh Hawley has publicly urged the indictment of Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison over allegations of accepting campaign funds from individuals linked to a significant fraud investigation. This accusation surfaced during a Senate Homeland Security hearing, intensifying scrutiny on Ellison’s conduct in office.

During the hearing, Hawley questioned Ellison about a report from last year by the New York Post alleging Ellison took $10,000 in donations from figures tied to the Feeding Our Future fraud case, while Ellison denied aiding any fraudsters and accused Hawley of falsehoods.

The case involves billions in misused taxpayer funds for child nutrition programs in Minnesota. Hawley referenced a December 2021 meeting where program operators allegedly sought Ellison’s assistance with federal probes. Supporters of Hawley’s position argue that accountability in public office must be non-negotiable.

Hawley Challenges Ellison on Fraud Ties

The Feeding Our Future scandal, as outlined in the hearing, saw billions of dollars in federal child nutrition funds allegedly diverted improperly. Dozens of individuals have faced charges and convictions in connection with this misuse. Hawley pressed Ellison on the sheer scale of this financial misconduct in Minnesota.

Breitbart reports that the meeting in December 2021, lasting roughly an hour, involved program operators requesting help with federal investigators. Hawley asserted that this discussion was recorded for evidence.

While no direct statements from the hearing are available, the gravity of accepting funds under such circumstances raises serious ethical questions. If true, doesn’t this suggest a troubling conflict of interest for a state’s top legal officer? Transparency in these matters is paramount for public trust.

Allegations of Campaign Fund Misconduct

Hawley further alleged that some proceeds from the fraud were linked to transnational criminal activities. He cited prior testimony presented to the Senate committee to support this claim. This adds a layer of national security concern to an already troubling financial scandal.

The New York Post report from last year detailed several $2,500 donations allegedly accepted by Ellison from individuals later charged in the case. These contributions reportedly came after concerns were raised with him about federal financial reviews. Hawley insisted this warranted both indictment and resignation.

Such allegations, if substantiated, point to a breach of public duty that cannot be ignored. How can citizens trust their legal system if top officials appear compromised by questionable donations? This situation demands rigorous investigation, not dismissive denials.

Ellison Rejects Claims of Wrongdoing

During the Senate Homeland Security hearing, Ellison firmly rejected any suggestion of assisting fraud perpetrators. He went further, accusing Hawley of spreading untruths during their exchange. His defense stands in stark contrast to the accusations leveled against him.

Yet, denying involvement does little to address the specific claims of recorded meetings and subsequent donations. If evidence like recordings exists, as Hawley suggests, shouldn’t that be made public to clear the air? Stonewalling only fuels suspicion among taxpayers seeking clarity.

The broader context of the Feeding Our Future case shows dozens already held accountable through prosecutions. This isn’t a minor issue but a systemic failure involving billions meant for vulnerable children. Ellison’s role, if any, in shielding wrongdoers must be thoroughly probed.

Implications for Public Trust in Minnesota

Hawley’s call for indictment underscores a conservative push for strict ethical standards in governance. While President Donald Trump is not directly involved, his administration’s emphasis on law and order aligns with such demands for accountability. This case could set a precedent for handling political misconduct.

Ultimately, Minnesota citizens deserve an attorney general beyond reproach in handling federal funds and investigations.

If Hawley’s assertions hold even a grain of truth, the public’s faith in state leadership is at stake. Isn’t it time for full disclosure to restore confidence in our institutions?
